off-road trail
—this summer.
Chevrolet recently teased a new Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison set to debut this summer. The ZR2 Bison follows the release of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 off-roader which debuted in 2021.
Chevrolet is partnering with American Expedition Vehicles (AEW)—the same aftermarket outfitter and tuner they worked with on the Colorado ZR2 Bison that launched in 2019—to create this new entry in the ZR2 series.
The publication predicts that GM will use the same 6.2-liter V8 engine from the Silverado ZR2 in the ZR2 Bison. That particular engine produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, though it's possible it could be improved with some tuning by AEW.

The upgraded Silverado ZR2 Bison is likely to see the same improvements featured on the
Colorado ZR2 Bison
. Chevrolet previously worked with AEW to create the Colorado ZR2 Bison, an off-road-ready version of the midsize truck.
The upgrades for the Colorado Bison included a front winch provision and rear recovery points, as well as five hot-stamped boron steel skid plates to protect the underbody. A set of custom AEV front and rear bumpers acts as a finishing touch for the vehicle.
According to the teaser video, it appears that the ZR2 Silverado will have similar protection for the underbody as well as an upgraded differential and possibly a similar AEW front bumper. Motor1 reports that the fog lights featured in the teaser could be different from the base ZR2, but that can't be confirmed yet until we get a closer look at the actual vehicle.

When will the new Silverado be available?

The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison is going to hit dealer lots sometime this summer, so we shouldn't have to wait long to see some more details on this off-road-capable version.
The base 2022 Silverado ZR2 starts at around $70,000, so we'd assume the upgraded Bison package will start a little higher. For the sake of comparison, the Colorado ZR2 Bison package added $5,750 to the cost of the Colorado ZR2.
But if Chevrolet is hoping to capitalize on the fervor of its full-size truck customers, it'll probably look to make the larger Silverado ZR2 Bison a more premium offering.
We wouldn't be surprised if this model ended up in the ballpark of $80,000, but we'll see when the automaker decides to reveal a little more and announce when it hits dealer lots.

Save where you can

If they're not hard to find due to low inventory, this specialized trim could see markups from less scrupulous dealers. If you're worried about being able to afford a brand-new truck, you should try to cut costs elsewhere.
And that can be hard to do with insurance premiums rising across the nation in 2022, so it's important to shop around.
