reports the 2022 Chevy Colorado has three engine options: a base 2.5-L four-cylinder, a 3.6-L V8, and a 2.8-L four-cylinder turbo-diesel. Compared to the Tacoma’s engine options of a base 2.7-L, four-cylinder, and 3.5-L V8, the Chevy is more powerful. When Consumer Reports
tested one of each model, they found the Colorado could go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, while the Tacoma could reach the same speed in 8.2 seconds. But they did rate the transmission on both as a four out of five. In terms of towing performance, the Colorado wins again, being able to tow 7,600 lbs, compared to the Tacoma’s 6,800 lb capability. The Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma are pretty evenly matched in the interior and comfort categories.
Both have 7-inch and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment systems available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s charging capabilities and navigation systems in both pickup trucks.
Consumer Reports rated the Colorado a bit better in comfort categories, giving it a 3 out of 5 in driving position, noise, rear seat comfort, front access, and rear access, compared to the Tacoma’s 2 out of 5 rating. Neither is an incredibly big pickup truck

Price is another category where the two trucks are very comparable, with the Colorado coming in a little bit less. That pickup truck starts around $25,500 and can cost up to $44,200, while the Tacoma starts around $27,000 and goes up to around $49,000.
In terms of safety, the Toyota Tacoma is a better option because of the onset of safety features that come standard in all Toyota vehicles. All Toyotas come standard with collision warnings, collision interventions, and other features like daytime running lights, rear view camera, and more. The Colorado has some of these safety features but few are standard.
Chevy Colorado vs. Toyota Tacoma: Which is better?
The better pickup truck for you depends on your personal preferences. While the Chevy Colorado has a more powerful engine, better towing, and slightly higher comfort, the Toyota Tacoma is the safer pickup truck. Plus, Consumer Reports rated the Toyota Tacoma as more reliable and more likely to satisfy owners than the Chevy Colorado.
