background
If someone asked you to rank the hottest new
minivans
on the market, your response would probably start with another question: "Wait, there's more than one?"
Car and Driver
recently ranked every new 2022 minivan from worst to best—making it easier for the family on the move to determine which set of sliding doors on wheels is right for them.
Granted, only four models currently grace the market, but that's still pretty saturated for a segment whose sales last peaked in 2000.
Let's see what C&D had to say about this year's hottest people movers.

Toyota Sienna

Starting out this list at No. 4 is the Toyota Sienna, which boasts a 243-horsepower hybrid powertrain with an estimated gas mileage of 36 mpg combined, which is 14 mpg more than last year's gas model.
That makes it second on the list in terms of efficiency after the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (more on that later).
The Sienna is loaded with driver assist tech like lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and emergency braking, making it perfect for sudden stops at your school's pickup/drop-off line.
It also seats up to eight and features 34 cubic feet of cargo space—and its available all-wheel drive could give you more confidence transporting your precious cargo in slippery conditions.
The 2022 Toyota Sienna starts at $35,775.

Honda Odyssey

Third on the list is the 2022 Honda Odyssey, which is powered by a 280-horsepower V6 that gets it 30 mpg combined fuel economy based on the publication's real-world testing.
It boasts great handling and decently tuned suspension, making it a perfect candidate for an aftermarket coffee can muffler and unpainted body kit in 15 years.
The Odyssey seats up to eight and has 32 cubic feet of rear cargo space. It features standard safety tech including automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
C&D notes that like the Toyota Sienna, the Honda Odyssey performed exceptionally during long-term testing.
The 2022 Honda Odyssey starts at $33,515.

Kia Carnival

Next up at No. 2 is the Kia Carnival, which eschews the traditional design trappings of your typical family shuttle for a more contemporary SUV-like appearance.
In fact, Kia doesn't even call it a minivan; the automaker has distanced itself from that loaded term and is calling it a multi-purpose vehicle, or MPV.
The Carnival replaces the Kia Sedona and boasts a 290-horsepower V6 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission on its front-wheel drive powertrain.
It also has some luxury features on its higher trim levels including heated and cooled reclining second-row captain's chairs—as well as enough legroom for an ottoman for each.
The Carnival seats up to eight and performed better in C&D's traction and brake testing than the other three models on the list, but fell short overall thanks to limited storage space at 40 cubic feet.
The 2022 Kia Carnival starts at $33,275.

Chrysler Pacifica

Topping the relatively short list of the best minivans of 2022 is the Chrysler Pacifica. Powered by a 287-horsepower V6, the Pacifica features 32 cubic feet of rear cargo space behind the third row, but stowable second-row seating makes for even more flexible cargo and seating arrangements.
The Pacifica has great gas mileage for its gas-powered models, testing at 31 mpg, while its plug-in hybrid model nets an EPA-estimated 82 MPGe combined.
This minivan seats up to eight and is available in an all-wheel drive configuration in 2021 or newer models. It performed well on C&D's long-term road tests.
It's also the most expensive of the four models ranked here, starting at $38,590.

Which minivan is best for you?

Per C&D, the Chrysler Pacifica is the obvious choice if you're in the market for a minivan. And while they attract some hate, they're pretty handy vehicles for their intended purpose. But if you want a minivan that doesn't look like a minivan, go with the Kia Carnival.
