Can the New Integra Stand with Its Competitors?

The Acura Integra is back after a 15-year production hiatus. Can Honda’s luxury sedan jump back in the game and hold its own against the likes of the Subaru WRX and fellow new-comer, the Hyundai Elantra N?

background
When
Acura
discontinued the Integra line 15 years ago, car fans lost a V8 powerhouse that was once responsible for converting many American muscle car enthusiasts into fans of imported, rear-wheel-drive
sedans
Now, Acura is reviving one of its long-time favorite models. But now that the Acura Integra is back on the block, does it stand in comparison with competitors—the Subaru WRX and Hyundai Elantra?

2022 Acura Integra vs 2022 Subaru WRX

HotCars
notes that, like the Acura Integra, the Subaru WRX will be updated for 2022, with a new model that’s hotly anticipated by fans. Both vehicles should be priced similarly, starting at around $30,000.
The primary difference between these two vehicles is Subaru’s signature, always-running, symmetrical all-wheel-drive. Subaru, as to be expected, takes the cake when it comes to handling inclement weather conditions or winding back roads.
Even still, the Acura Integra is predicted to be evenly matched in terms of power (somewhere between 250-270 hp) and will come with a manual transmission option, as well.

2022 Acura Integra vs 2022 Hyundai Elantra N

MORE: How Did Acura Come to Be and Who Owns This Luxury Brand?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N’s daring style and well-marketed “boost-mode”, which increases the horsepower from 276 hp to 286 hp, will make the 2022 Acura Integra work hard to grab its own share of the performance sedan market.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N is expected to start somewhere around $35,000, making it a possibly more expensive competitor to the Acura Integra.
Something that might sway drivers between the vehicles is the Acura Integra’s long history as a fun-to-drive, moderately priced sedan. In comparison, the Hyundai Elantra N is a relatively unknown and more expensive vehicle.

Will there be an Acura Integra EV?

MORE: Was the Acura Legend a Good Car?
So far,
MotorTrend
has only reported a hybrid version of the Acura Integra, but time will tell whether or not this sedan will be electrified. Like other car manufacturers, Honda (who owns Acura) will have to comply with emissions standards and production limitations on personal vehicles.
These regulations, which prohibit the production of gas vehicles in 2035, will mean that Acura will be spending some of the next decade strategically designing and making decisions on its future lineup. Here’s to hoping the Acura Integra EV will be on the way soon.
