Project GTP Hypercar: the convergence of form and function
The car was developed collaboratively by Cadillac Design, Cadillac Racing, and Dallara, an Italian racecar manufacturer.
Cadillac said in a statement, “Elements of the brand’s heritage such as vertical lighting and floating blades are present throughout and connect the Project GTP Hypercar to the future of Cadillac.”
Cadillac has yet to release actual photographs of the car, but (quite realistic) digital renderings look frighteningly fast and futuristic, like its taillights might leave glowing red streaks behind it anywhere it goes.
“The Project GTP Hypercar is a unique convergence of form and function and showcases Cadillac’s future performance aesthetic,” said Chris Mikalauskas, lead exterior creative designer at Cadillac. “We have plenty more to come, from the upcoming racecar to amazing production vehicles.”

Project GTP Hypercar specs
The Project GTP Hypercar will be powered by a 5.5-liter DOHC V8 engine paired with an LMDh hybrid system. Here’s what that nebulous thundercloud of acronyms means:
DOHC engine: Dual overhead cam engines have four valves for each of the engine’s cylinders that create better airflow and thus more power and efficiency. Most modern engines are designed this way, especially those designed for performance.
LMDh: Le Mans Daytona hybrid is a racecar classification that regulates specifications for cars in certain races, like the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Cars in this classification must meet parameters around their cost, weight, engine output, tires, and other details.
Cadillac racing in 2023
The Project GTP Hypercar will race in next year’s International Motor Sports Association’s Weathertech Sportscar Championship, an exhaustively-titled
that take place around the world. This includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a grueling endurance race in which the winner is the car that travels the greatest distance in 24 hours.
“Cadillac will be competing again on the world racing stage, and we are all thrilled to return to Le Mans after 20 years,” said Global Cadillac Vice President Rory Harvey. “By competing in both the 2023 IMSA and WEC championships, Cadillac Racing has the opportunity to demonstrate its capability, craftsmanship, and technology.”
Cadillac has competed in international sports car races since 2017 and has earned a few significant victories:
Winning the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2021, 2018, and 2017
Winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2020, 2019, 2018, and 2017
Winning the Michelin North American Endurance Cup in 2020, 2019, 2018, and 2017
