background
Kei cars are the smallest, most compact, but still, highway-legal cars on the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), and
Suzuki
just came out with one of the coolest ones yet.
The new Suzuki Lapin LC has retro charm in an ultra-lightweight package. It resembles the Suzuki Fronte from the late 1960s, but with modern touches and a lot more power. The
car ownership experts
at Jerry are here to break down everything you need to know about this new release from Suzuki.

All about the Suzuki Lapin LC

While most American automakers tend to shy away from making things too cutesy, that’s not the case for the Lapin LC at all. According to
The Drive
, the Lapin LC is described by Suzuki as being “small, round and cute.”
The engine is a 630 cc four-cylinder that delivers just 63 horsepower. Much like the animal, it's named after (Lapin is French for rabbit), you can expect the Lapin LC’s performance to be lightweight, swift, agile, and soft.
At 1.4 million yen, the LC version of the Lapin is priced at about the equivalent of $10,500. That’s $1,200 more than the regular Lapin.
While the Lapin LC is not electric, it gets excellent
fuel economy
. The 2WD version gets about 29.9 kilometers per liter of fuel, while the 4WD gets 31.4 kilometers per liter. That’s the equivalent of 70 miles per gallon.

Throwback style with modern amenities

While the cute and retro styling of the Lapin LC hearkens back to a bygone era, the amenities within are at the cutting edge of design and technology. Inside you’ll find USB-A and USB-C ports, a heated driver’s seat and optional heated passenger seat, and a suite of safety features.
Auto high beams, road sign recognition, hill hold, and something Suzuki calls “lightheadedness warning function” all come standard with the Lapin LC.
To add to the cuteness, it even comes in pink, but the dusty rose colorway looks more like a stylish Apple accessory than Barbie’s hot pink Corvette convertible
The X trim is available in Fawn Beige Metallic and Terracotta Pink Metallic, which are each paired with a brown roof, while the Urban Brown Pearl Metallic and Nocturne Blue Pearl have a beige roof. The Trad Khaki Metallic colorway is available with both roof options.
