background
If you’re not already familiar with the BMW R NineT Scrambler, you’ve probably peeped it in a paparazzi photo or two of this
motorcycle
being ridden by Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa, but this car isn’t just hot with celebrities.
It’s not surprising that the geniuses of German engineering at BMW would also make a great bike, and this highly-customizable ride is no exception. Read on to learn more about the R NineT Scrambler with the experts at Jerry.

What is a Scrambler-style bike?

While the BMW R NineT Scrambler is made to be highly customizable, BMW chose the style of bike for this model very carefully.
According to
Motorweek
, the “R” distinction is important for BMW motorcycles and is the company’s way of paying tribute to its 90 years of motorcycle production.
The BMW R 32 was the brand’s first-ever motorcycle, and it premiered at the Berlin Motor Show in 1923 according to
BMW Group
A scrambler-style motorcycle plays on this stripped-down, vintage theme, and the style has been gaining popularity in recent years. They are best known for their off-roading capabilities, which originated from the motorcycle scrambling tradition of the early 20th century.
According to nadaguides.com, scrambling began as a trail riding sport where participants raced on rough and rugged dirt courses.
By making the R NineT a scrambler, BMW created a highly versatile type of bike that is vintage in its style, but modern in execution.

Specs of the R NineT Scrambler

The stripped-down mechanical appearance of the T NineT plays to its functionality with high-mounted exhaust pipes, a flat seat, and knobby tires. The look is completed with taller handlebars and rubber fork gaiters.
In spite of its rugged origins, you probably don’t want to take the Scrambler too far off-road. The NineT Scrambler’s handling is balanced and its mechanical suspension is reliable and basic.
The R NineT scrambler is also described by Motorweek as being “refreshingly low-tech,” but you can of course customize it to your needs if you’d like additional features such as GPS and heated grips.
The base model comes standard with a 6-speed gearbox and single-sided Paralever swing-arm shaft drive. Peak torque remains at 85 lbs-ft. at 6,000 rpm.
The completely customizable Scrambler comes in four paint variants, each of which offers a classic yet contemporary feel. Best of it all? A base model starts at a reasonable $12,995 MSRP.
