In the late 1970s, Toyota
debuted the high-end Supra with high expectations. Though it got off to a slow start, in the ‘80s and ‘90s, the sleek Supra was a hit. Five generations later, the grand touring machine derived from the Toyota Celica is still a coveted Japanese
sports car today. Check out the ultimate Toyota Supras on our list here at Jerry

. These Toyota Supras aren’t half bad
With pop-up headlights and new upgrades, the 1982 Toyota Celica Supra offered 145 hp. The reliable car didn't quite meet performance expectations, but this car is not to be underestimated! The ‘82 Supra had wide tires, a firm chassis, and a complicated electronic radio that will ensure owners will never be bored on the weekends.
The 1985 Toyota Celica Supra had a slight increase in horsepower, bringing it up to 161, which was pretty impressive for the time. The ‘85 Supra’s sunshade sported a smooth new design and lots of options when it came to adjusting your seats.
With both a luxury type and performance type, drivers enjoyed the customization and personal touches that suited their needs. And if you opted for the lux option, you were given a high-tech digitized dashboard.
Another eye-catcher and a car collector’s dream is the 1988 Toyota Supra. Critics love the plethora of customization options and the overall style of the speed machine. The engine pumps out 200 hp, but of course, that can be modified to fit your needs. However, the fuel economy is truly lacking on the ‘88 Supra with only 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
Toyota Supras start to win awards
The 1983 Toyota Supra A60 won MotorTrend’s Import Car of the Year in 1983. Car and Driver also named it one of the best vehicles of that year. According to Money Inc.
, “The one significant change the 1983 lineup of the second generation of Toyota’s Supra models featured was an increased output of 150 horsepower and 159 lb-ft of torque, despite the fact that it came from the exact same 5M-GE engine that’s been in the previous 1982 model.” A pearl white 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo was found on Autotrader
with only 16,000 miles. This rare GT was the first model to receive a turbocharger that catapulted the coupe into the sports car big leagues. The publication loves this third-generation Supra’s period goodness, “from the bolstered seats and purposeful gear lever to the ‘Live Sound’ badges on the speakers.” The 1993 Toyota Supra replaced the old classic style with a modern, round body. The nostalgic pop-up headlights we all know and love were swapped for more conventional ones. Its power was boosted to 220 hp and can accelerate to 60 mp in about 4.6 seconds. That’s a long way from 11.2 seconds from the sports coupe’s 1979 model.
With a six-speed transmission, the 1993 Toyota Supra Turbo offers 320 hp. The resigned car also made it to the big screen, starring in 2 Fast 2 Furious. The car’s movie star status jacked up the price point, and theinsurance
isn’t cheap either. The 1993 Turbo is also pretty comfortable, easy to modify, and exceptionally designed. The 1997 Toyota Supra Turbo celebrates Supra’s 15th anniversary. The limited-edition model has an awesome stereo and special badges on the exterior. While the liftback does have 320 hp, many owners/Fast and Furious fans modify the engine.
