When darkness falls on Mount Akina, the unmistakable roar and piercing lights of Takumi Fujiwara's Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 soon follows. And with Fujiwara behind the wheels, light-minded fans knew this would be another epic night.

How did Takumi play along in his Initial D car?

In the series, Shuichi Shigeno carefully weaves the plot around Takumi Fujiwara, a student with over five years of driving experience, Akina Speed Stars, and Red Suns. The last two are renowned racing rivals with a wide canyon of experience and car specs between them.

Despite the Red Suns being superior, Takumi passionately disappoints them time and again. In one of his earliest runs, he easily defeated the Red Suns' driver number 2, Keisuke Takahashi, who was racing in a more powerful Mazda-RX7.

If you can remember, Takahashi's losing streak had started on the previous night when a mysterious driver in a Sprinter Trueno soundly defeated him.

The mysterious driver was later identified as Bunta Fujiwara, Takumi Fujiwara's father. Bunta had also amassed many enemies in the racing sports arena, whom his son managed to defeat in the series.

The Mazda-RX7 Takahashi boasted on tracks is a good-looking legendary sports car. It was introduced in 1978, utilizing the world's first mass-produced sequential turbocharged engines. The car had twin turbos and each worked independently for sudden speed bursts.

With a smooth and powerful engine, the interior was quite the opposite. It was welcoming with soft squashy black seats. According to

Takumi once raced against the mighty Nissan Skyline GT-R, but it couldn't defeat him though it was favored as an all-wheel-drive car.

Armed with a powerful engine, the Mitsubishi Lancer, in the hands of Emperors, another racing crew once came face to face with Takumi. The Lancer had beaten good drivers and was prepared to repeat the same.

Nissan appeared in the series uniquely as the leading car for a two-ladies team, Impact Blue. They were hard to beat on their home turf, and Takumi's friend Iketani proved it.
