There was a time when the
Audi
brand was rarely considered among the best in the automotive world. Consumer Reports gave Audi vehicles from previous years poor reviews, particularly due to reliability issues.
However, Audi has recently stepped its game up, and Consumer Reports has taken notice.
In their recent rankings of the top car brands,
Consumer Reports
gave Audi the 6th spot overall. This marks considerable growth for the brand, which had been in the 11th position the year prior.

Why has Audi risen in the Consumer Reports rankings?

Out of 32 car brands ranked by Consumer Reports, Audi has managed to climb from the middle tier and is nearing the top 5. To understand Audi's rapid rise in the ranks, it is important to understand how Consumer Reports ranks brands.
Generally speaking, Consumer Reports graded car brands on four major criteria: road test, safety, owner satisfaction, and reliability.
As an example of the sorts of vehicles that Consumer Reports tends to favor, Subaru earned the 1st place position in this year's rankings. Subaru vehicles are famous for their safety and reliability.
Audi's lineup might not yet be up to the safety or reliability standards of Subaru just yet, but the German brand is almost up to Subaru standards in one area. Audi earned a road test score of 88, which is just one point behind Subaru's score.
It's too early to say for certain, but Audi could rise even higher in the Consumer Reports ranks in the future. This is because of the exciting models that they have added or improved to their lineup.

Audi's E-Tron line is giving the brand more recognition

Audi has shown the potential that they have for future success through early models of their E-Tron line of electric vehicles. One EV that has gained considerable attention is the Audi E-Tron GT, an electric sports sedan that demonstrates impressive speed and an undeniably cool style.
According to Consumer Reports, the standard model E-Tron GT produces 522 horsepower. On a single charge, the four-door sedan can travel 238 miles. Additionally, all-wheel drive is standard on all E-Tron GT models.
For those who want a little something extra, there is the
RS E-Tron GT
, a performance-focused variant. This GT can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.1 seconds and produces 637 horsepower.

The Audi Q5 is one of the best compact SUVs today

As for gas-powered cars, Audi has been doing well on that front recently as well. One of the highlights of their gas-powered lineup is the Audi Q5 compact SUV.
Consumer Reports
ranks it as the fifth-best luxury compact SUV.
The Audi Q5 is not the most groundbreaking SUV out there, but instead, it impresses by just how smooth of a vehicle it is. Consumer Reports notes that its ride is impressively smooth, and it is also surprisingly fun to drive.
Safety features also set the Audi Q5 apart from the competition, as features like automatic emergency braking and forward-collision warning come standard.
