Alfa Romeo's First Hyrbid: The Tonale

The Alfa Romeo Tonale will be one of Alfa Romeo’s first hybrids which will make it less of a gas guzzler with the luxury design one expects from the brand.

While Alfa Romeo is known for its hyperfast (and hyper-expensive)
supercars
, most of them don't get very good mileage. An expensive vehicle combined with a powerful, gas-guzzling engine can cause your
insurance rates
to increase quickly.
Some drivers can't resist testing the full potential of these cars, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
Fortunately, Alfa Romeo's latest car is a relatively reserved hybrid: the Tonale. Here's what we can expect from this upcoming model, based on info from
Alfa Romeo
.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale's powertrain options

The base Alfa Romeo Tonale actually has a gas-powered engine capable of 256 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It's paired with AWD and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The available hybrid setup is a turbo-four with an electric motor producing 272 horsepower. It's also paired with AWD, but comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. Alfa Romeo promises that this PHEV will have over 30 miles of electric range.
Both models come with a fully independent suspension, so the ride quality will likely be on the softer side. Even though it's an SUV, the Tonale will reportedly have the same "race-inspired driving dynamics" we've come to expect from its sleeker siblings.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale's appealing design

Like any self-respecting Alfa Romeo car, the Tonale sports distinct five-hole wheels and the unmistakable V-shaped Scudetto grille. Its meticulously-sculpted body lines also help it stand out from its reserved rivals.
Alfa Romeo also showed off the Tonale's interior, highlighted by the available Alcantara suede seats. This upscale faux leather, commonly used in sports cars, has a premium feel without getting too damp or hot.
The rest of the cabin is primarily covered in leather, accompanied by stylish aluminum accents throughout.
The pictures on Alfa Romeo's website show red contrast stitching, though we expect other color schemes will be available.
We can also see sporty circular air vents, plus the Alfa Romeo crest on the headrests and steering wheel. The three-spoke steering wheel is pictured with paddle shifters, which will be optional equipment.
At the center stack is a 10.3-inch touchscreen powered by Uconnect 5 software. Up to five drivers can make their own custom home screen profiles, according to a
Stellantis
press release. Wireless smartphone integration, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and wireless charging are all included.

An abundance of safety technology

The Alfa Romeo Tonale has some of the most important safety features as standard equipment. The base Sprint has forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, lane-keeping assist, intelligent speed control, and driver attention monitoring.
Optional features include a 360-degree parking camera and Level 2 vehicle autonomy with traffic jam assist. Drivers can also add on adaptive dampers, which will automatically stiffen or relax the suspension in seconds.
We're excited to see if the Tonale can live up to the performance standards of this brand, especially with the PHEV powertrain. You can place a reservation for the Alfa Romeo Tonale in Q4 2022.

Can I start shopping for Alfa Romeo Tonale insurance right now?

If the Tonale has caught your eye, you can definitely start asking for insurance quotes before you buy one.
In fact, buying insurance before your car allows you to lock in good deals when you find them. Covered by quality insurance, you can also start driving the instant your car is delivered or bought at a dealership.
Insurance companies will probably start offering Alfa Romeo quotes closer to the car's release date (early 2023). As soon as those rates are available,
