3 Ways Car Tech Will Evolve in the Next 15 Years

Car technology will revolutionize the car industry and infrastructure as we know it, with there being longer-lasting, safer, and more technologically advanced features.

With each decade,
car technology
impresses critics and consumers alike with its amazing advances. A few decades ago, who would believe that we'd have cars that will soon be able to drive themselves? Vehicle autonomy is also present in certain parking and safety features that you can purchase on several vehicles right now.
According to
MotorTrend
, there are only more exciting things to come. Fifteen years in the future, here are our top three predicted improvements in the automotive world.

Vehicles will last even longer

Although it may not seem like it, vehicle design today is actually severely limited by safety concerns. However, MotorTrend says that updated safety technology will give auto engineers more freedom.
For one thing, the tires on future cars might be made from rubber infused with kudzu enzymes.
Thanks to a Microcyclus ulei fungus outbreak, the natural rubber resources used by auto manufacturers are in danger. Not only is kudzu in greater supply, but previous MotorTrend research revealed it to slough heat faster than regular rubber.
Some cars might not even have air-powered tires at all! Years ago, Michelin showcased Tweel, a set of large loops made from composite or steel instead of rubber.
Tweel mutes bumps more effectively than standard tires, can handle more weight, and has reduced noise. Steel can't blow out like rubber, so you could drive on the same set for many years.
Spherical tires have already reached production, but only for certain vehicles. These air-less orbs levitate themselves with electromagnetic waves inside the wheelhouses. They're safe from the elements and create less friction, meaning a safer and better handling experience for the driver.
We might also see more cars with razor-thin roof pillars, as shown in many futuristic concepts. In the event of a crash, the pillars would expand to protect the occupants and reduce damage to the vehicle itself.

Car technology will make sci-fi movie cars a reality

New antenna technology could make it so that everyone has access to Wi-Fi inside their vehicles through service democratization.
However, it would be an expensive venture for automakers, which is why a rollout hasn't been planned just yet. For now, the technology continues to be refined.
Sensor technology inside cars will be able to measure your heart rate and brain waves while driving. If you simply feel like taking a break, a special helmet could allow you to control the car with only your thoughts.
Nissan announced its work on this project in 2018, but its completion is still far away.

The
charging infrastructure problems
that plague automotive professionals should be gone by 2037. All roads and bridges will be built with ingrained wireless charging, pumping small amounts of electricity into your vehicle as you idle at intersections.
Tech company Qualcomm showed a demonstration of the project in 2017, but a nationwide rollout date has yet to be planned.
WaveSense, a spinoff of the Waymo autonomous technology company, announced its plans for ground-penetrating radar technology for EVs back in 2018. This GPR sensor can sense any anomaly under the pavement, so we can prevent sinkholes and potholes quickly.

What does this new car technology mean for the future of auto insurance?

All that new technology inside your car might mean that car insurance premiums will increase. Still, it's a satisfying trade-off. More driver's aids usually mean that a car is safer, so there are fewer chances of accidents and total losses.
No piece of car technology will have a surefire way to prevent accidents, so good insurance is a must. To stay up-to-date on the latest insurance rates for any vehicle, sign up with
