The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport and Sentra Just Made It into Consumer Reports’ 'Best Of' List

Two of Nissan’s more affordable models were honored by Consumer Reports. What made them a cut above the rest of their under-$25,000 price range?

New cars
are getting more and more expensive, and this year’s list of vehicles available for less than $25,000 is proof. Of all the makes and models sold in the U.S., less than 50 of them start below the $25,000 barrier.
Nissan is one company bucking that trend. Five of its 14 models for 2022 start between $16,000 and $25,000. And according to Consumer Reports (CR), the Japanese automaker is doing cheap and new better than any other brand.
The Nissan Sentra and the Nissan Rogue Sport were the only two models from the price range included in the watchdog’s “Best of 2022” list, though they both had the lowest score of any model that made it.
Jerry
took a closer look to see what CR thought of the two vehicles.

Consumer Reports’ reports on the Nissan Rogue Sport and Sentra

It wasn’t easy to build a vehicle with a price tag under $25,000 in 2021. A crippling
microchip shortage
and other supply chain issues caused by the pandemic put financial pressure on every point of the sale cycle.
Despite all that, Nissan succeeded in bringing a number of affordable options to consumers, but
CR highlighted
the Rogue Sport and Sentra as the best of the bunch. Both vehicles were praised for their smooth rides and impressive list of standard safety features.
CR didn’t leave the two models without critiques. The Rogue Sport’s lack of sportiness and the Sentra’s mediocre reliability record earned both of them a score of 77 from the publication. But that was enough to push the competition off the list.

Other affordable vehicles that made CR’s list

Nissan might’ve swept the “under $25,000” category on CR’s ‘Best Cars of the Year’ list, but two vehicles with starting prices just above that bracket took home some of the best scores of the year.
The Subaru Forester received a ‘90,’ thanks to an agreeable design update, strong fuel economy, and stellar reliability record. CR really loved the Forester’s new look, highlighting the crossover’s improved cargo space and visibility.
The new Honda Accord also made the list with a score of 87. CR pointed out the number of powertrain choices, the car’s impressively styled, comfortable interior, and its ability to offer power and efficiency for such a reasonable price as reasons for the high grade.

You’d think the standard safety features and low starting prices would make
car insurance
for a Nissan cheaper than other makes and models, but average rates for a Nissan are actually about $150 higher than the national average.
