background
With plenty of muscular engine options and generous cargo space, it’s hard to go wrong with the 2022
Chevrolet
Suburban. With a starting price of $51,600, the large SUV has impressed critics with its performance, comfort, and convenience.
Despite some mixed reviews, check out why

A workhorse that aids busy families

One of the benefits of buying a new car for your family is the ability to take advantage of the latest safety technology. For example, “Rear-seat alert prompts the driver to look in the back seats before exiting the car, helping to make sure a sleeping baby or pet isn’t left behind,” according to
U.S. News
.
And for the 2022 model year, U.S. News examined 96 different cars, SUVs, and minivans. And the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban came out on top as the best large SUV.
The car sports a 5.3-liter V8 engine with 355 hp on all models except the High Country. And according to
Car and Driver
, “It gets a standard 420-hp 6.2-liter V8, but it also can be equipped with the optional diesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder.” The suspension handles bumps well and families can enjoy a pretty quiet ride throughout.
The Suburban also impresses with “its muscular gas and diesel engine options, high towing capacity, and cushioned ride,” U.S. News tells us.

A family hauler equipped with modern comforts

The
three-row SUV
offers ample room for large families and an intuitive infotainment system to keep children of all ages entertained. Up to nine people can fit inside the vehicle and depending on the configuration, offers the most space we’ve seen in an SUV to date.
The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban makes it easy for families to haul bikes, furniture, or camping gear. With the second and third rows folded, you’ll get an impressive 144.7 cubic feet of cargo space—don’t be surprised if your friends ask you to help them move.
The cabin features metallic accents and soft-touch features that give a more “premium” vibe. Perfect for young kids, there are plenty of cubbies and storage compartments for toys, snacks, and blankets.
The 10.2-inch touchscreen is easy to use and includes physical knobs and buttons for audio and climate control.
“Back-seat passengers will appreciate the optional 12.6-inch touch screens, which allow users to stream TV shows and movies, play video games and music, and view the driving route in the navigation system,” notes U.S. News.
Bluetooth comes standard on the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban as well as HD radio, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. You’ll also get a Wi-Fi hotspot and eight USB ports so each passenger’s smartphone is guaranteed to be fully charged.
Plenty of innovative technology and driver safety features also come standard. Once optional, the 2022 Suburban “now comes standard with front parking sensors, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist...and a new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster comes standard on LT trims and up,” according to U.S. News.
If you opt for the RST, Z71, or Premier trims, you now have the option of a 6.2-liter V8 engine as well.

Why did this award-winning car get mixed reviews?

For a top-rated SUV, it’s interesting that with an EPA-estimate of only 16 mpg, the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban was recommended for families—who will naturally take their vacations on the road.
If you want better fuel economy, you’ll need to level up to the diesel engine which gets 21 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway.
Consumer Reports
found the tall hood of the 2022 Suburban concerning. This could compromise forward visibility, which can make it hard to see pedestrians and little dogs in the city. The organization gave the SUV an overall road test score of 76%, but when it came to predicted reliability, the Suburban scored a 1 out of 5.
Braking is also another issue for this monster of a car. With a 2 out of 5 rating from Consumer Reports, the time the Chevy Suburban takes to come to a complete stop from wet or dry terrain is less than ideal.
If you’re not swayed by the negative reviews and still want the reliable 2022 Chevy Suburban for your family, make sure your loved ones also have the best car insurance. Believe it or not, children can affect your policy.
