BMW
enthusiasts might get to enjoy an early Christmas present. New details on the 2022 BMW M2 have been released. While not all of the information available is confirmed, much of the speculation is likely to be true. So what new details can be gleaned about one of BMW’s flagship vehicles?
And while you obsess over BMW’s new work of art, it’s worth checking up on your
car insurance
rates—it’ll be easier to afford a new M2 if you can shave some extra cash off of your insurance premiums.

A new BMW M2 was spotted at a test track

As
CarWow
reports, the BMW M2 was first seen at a test-driving track, the Nurburgring. The hardtop coupe revealed some aggressive new styling features.
It’s about time, too—this year marks the 50th anniversary of BMW’s M lineup. Set to compete against the likes of the Mercedes-AMG A45s, Audi RS3, and the Toyota GR86 sportscar, the M2 has been due for a bit of an upgrade for some time now.
Despite having a camouflage paint job to disguise the car’s new styling features, some touches were still visible. The grille shows off an extended flair and larger air intakes, as well as wider wheel arches and side skirts. The rear of the vehicle also seems to show a redesigned trunk spoiler, possibly featuring a carbon fiber composition.

What about the BMW M2’s powertrain?

The M2 has always been a step above the 2 Series, so it’s unlikely that the new M2 will have the smaller three- and four-cylinder engines offered by that line. Instead, expect to see a 3.0-liter, turbocharged V6 engine matched with either an automatic transmission or BMW’s signature six-speed manual.
Also expected is an all-wheel-drive powertrain, particularly with the automatic option. Considering that the M240i has 374 hp under the hood, BMW fans can expect something north of 400 hp in the new BMW M2.

How much will the BMW M2 cost?

Normally, the M2 starts at around $50,000 and goes up quickly with more expensive trim options. The 2022 BMW M2 should be about the same price, but as with many of the vehicle’s specs, we’ll have to just wait and see.
The interior should feature BMW’s large, tightly-tuned steering wheel, and will have M-Series logos featured throughout the cabin.
Other high points include BMW’s widely popular iDrive system, a large infotainment screen, and an estimated 0-60 mph time of about 4.5 seconds.
