In the highly competitive world of crossover SUVs, it’s easy to overlook the
Mazda
CX-30, but this moderately priced vehicle is one of the best buys of recent years. With a powerful engine, stylish body and interior, and all-wheel drive capabilities, Mazda’s SUV might be a vehicle to consider if you’re in the market for a new crossover. While it’s not perfect, the CX-30 comes quite close in several categories.

Mazda’s underrated CX-30 wins major style points

Though the Mazda CX-30 can walk the walk, too, it's got some serious style to match its powerful engine.
Motor1
raves about the CX-30 Premium Plus’ interior.
Some of the highlights include a large, well-illuminated three-dial instrument cluster, quality infotainment display, and genuine aluminum trim throughout the cabin. Add premium grain black leather into the mix, and the Mazda CX-30 could go toe-to-toe with some of Jeep’s best.
This crossover SUV adds a dramatic flair when seen from the curb—a long sloping hood, angular headlights, and pointed tail lights add sporty styling to what could have otherwise been just another boring SUV. Even though the Mazda CX-30 comes with option 16-inch rims, Motor1 recommends the 18-inchers, which seem to fit the black wheel well flares more proportionately.

The Mazda CX-30 has just the right amount of power

Though the Mazda CX-30 starts at just over $34,000, it’s worth upgrading to the Turbo version for an extra two grand—with 227 horses and an impressive 310 lb-ft of torque, this crossover certainly knows how to get up and go.
Even though gas prices might currently be too high for drivers to want to splurge on premium unleaded fuel, with high-octane gasoline, the CX-30 actually puts out 250 hp, and 320 lb-ft of torque. Its punchy engine is fuel-efficient, too, offering 22 mpg in town and 30 mpg on the highway, rivaling smaller SUVs like the Subaru Crosstrek

The Mazda CX-30 handles like a much smaller, nimbler vehicle

Motor1 gushes about the cornering abilities of the Mazda CX-30, noting the minimal amount of body roll, and a supple, forgiving suspension that takes most of the jolts and bumps out of rough roadways. Drivers will also be assisted by features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assistance, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams.
In all, the Mazda CX-30 is a vehicle that many of us have been sleeping on, simply because Mazda isn’t as well-known in the crossover/SUV segment as other carmakers. But as the 2021 CX-30 proves, it’s time for other SUVs to make way for Mazda’s unappreciated gem.
