The 2018 Land Rover Velar was a new luxury crossover in a competitive segment

In U.S. markets, there are so shortage of luxury crossovers, but not all are created equal. When compared to the likes of the Porsche Macan and the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Land Rover had its work cut out for it when crafting the Range Rover Velar.
To stand out in such a crowded segment, Land Rover crafted a stylish model with slim lights and a sloping roof.
The 2018 Range Rover Velar comes standard with all-wheel drive, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with an option to upgrade to a diesel four-cylinder and supercharged V-6.
The original MRSP for the Velar was $50,895 for the base trim, $55,695 for the S, $61,095 for the SE, $68,595 for the HSE and a whopping $90,295 for the First Edition trim.
The 2018 Velar won points for being the roomiest and best-styled in its class but ran into issues when it comes to the engine options.
The base 247-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four struggled given the 2018 Range Rover Velar’s weight, while the 180-hp turbodiesel four-cylinder has loud, noticeable clattery feedback that can be heard from the cabin.
The supercharged 380-hp 3.0-liter V-6 is the most powerful, but it’s a real gas guzzler.

Improvements for the 2019 and 2020 Land Rover Velar

The 2019 Range Rover Velar is notable for its larger 21.6-gallon fuel tank as well as some tech upgrades for the interior.
This is the first model of the Velar where Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, but they’re bundled together in a Smartphone Pack package. The 2019 version still struggled with a lethargic feeling and noisy engine.
Pricing tiers remained about the same upon its release, but the trim levels had entirely new names. The base P250 model had a starting MSRP of $50,975. The D180 started at $56,895, the P250 R-Dynamic SE started at $59,695, and the P380 S started at $64,295.
For the 2020 Land Rover Velar, they rolled out a high-performance trim level, the SV Autobiography Dynamic edition. At the time of its release it had a starting MSRP of $91,940, and a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine capable of making 550 horsepower.
Apple Carplay, Android Auto Integration, and driver-assistance tech are now standard across the lineup. Land Rover also eliminated the diesel four-cylinder engine.
