Chevrolet
Corvette is one of the most iconic cars in American history, but there's one model year in particular that stands out as particularly sought-after by car collectors.
The 1990 Corvette gives you the
performance that you’ve come to expect
from a high-end sports car like Corvette, but it has the sleek styling of a luxury vehicle to give you the best of both worlds.
Here's a look at the 1990 Corvette and why it remains popular more than 30 years later.
The Corvette Museum
writes about the 1990 Corvette, giving it high praise by saying its style and V8 performance "has humbled some of Europe's finest."
Corvette built 23,646 vehicles for the model year, with about a third of them being convertibles and the rest coupes. The site notes that the coupe was a popular body style for professional racing teams at the time.
The interior of the 1990 Corvette gives you comfortable, ergonomically correct seating, an advanced sound system with AM/FM radio, cassette player, and CD player, air conditioning, and power windows and locks.
On the exterior, you get concealed wipers with integral washers, corrosion-proof fiberglass body panels, and retractable halogen headlamps.

The specs of the 1990 Corvette

Powering the car's high-speed performance is a 5.7-liter (350 cu. in.) V8 engine at 245 HP with tuned-port fuel injection.
The vehicle includes a precisely engineered four-wheel independent suspension, with an optional Bilstein Selective Ride Control feature that allows the driver to choose from three system settings—touring, sport, or performance.
Power steering comes standard, and there is one of the most advanced anti-lock braking systems to that point.
The 245-HP engine helps bring the 1990 Corvette back to levels of speed that the vehicle enjoyed in its heyday in the 1960s.
Subsequent models later in the 1990s and beyond would, as expected, bump up the horsepower, even more, to ensure Corvette maintained its reputation as a speed demon.

The cost of the 1990 Corvette, then and now

According to
CarGurus
, if you bought a 1990 Corvette new at the time, it would have cost you close to $32,500 for the starting price of the coupe, while the convertible started out at closer to $38,000 retail.
If you're buying a used one now,
Edmunds
tells us you can expect to pay up to about $10,000 for the coupe from a private owner, while a dealer could charge in excess of $13,000 for one in outstanding condition.
If you're in the market for a convertible, you may be able to get one from a private seller for under $4,000 if the question isn't so good, but if you want one in good condition it'll run you about $8,000.
And if you want to buy from a dealer, you can expect the retail prices to be about $2,000 above those numbers. That is an indication that the 1990 Corvette has held its value pretty well more than three decades after its release.

Insuring your Corvette is always important

When a driver buys a new car, insuring it is usually at the top of their mind. But anytime you get a car, whether it's new or used, insuring it is important.
When you acquire one of the most desirable Corvette models, it is especially important to get the proper insurance for it. The farther you get from 1990, the harder it becomes to get replacement parts for the vehicle.
