The 1960s provided a bevy of
classic cars
that automotive enthusiasts the world over still admire, from iconic Chevy vehicles to stylish and innovative Corvettes
However, the 1967 Pontiac Catalina stands out for many nostalgic gearheads more than any other offering from that era. So does this Pontiac indeed still have the same magic it had when it rolled off the assembly line in 1967?
Jerry
has all the info you need on the 1967 Pontiac Catalina.

The Catalina evolved from a separate line of cars

In the 1950s, Pontiac introduced the Chieftain series.
These cars served as Pontiac's equivalent of the Chevrolet Bel Air and came in 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan versions with an available convertible option. The name "Catalina" was initially used to denote the Chieftain's hardtop models.
In 1959, Pontiac dropped the Chieftain name from their "entry-level" full-sized vehicles and renamed them the Catalina. The model was reworked and restyled with a slimmer profile and a more powerful engine.
By the '60s, the former Chieftain had become a muscle car in its own right, introducing a 2+2 option on the 1965 model that earned it the nickname of the "the big brother of the toughest kid on the block," which was the GTO at the time.

The 1967 Catalina was designed for peak performance and style

Though the 1967 Catalina would be the last vehicle in the 2+2 Catalina line, it was the one that put the most emphasis on power and performance
The 1967 Catalina's 2+2 option provides a 400 cu-in V8 engine with 333 HP, while the base model comes standard with a 428 cu-in V8 that produces 360 HP. For performance, drivers could also choose a Quadra-Power 428 V8 with 376 HP.
A significant restyling from the previous year's model saw the 1967 Catalina given a more wasp-waisted body contour, integral bumper-grilles, and angular wedge-shaped front fender tips.
In addition, the 1967 Catalina features disappearing windshield wipers. While automatic wipers are among the pinnacle of windshield wiper technology today, the Catalina's disappearing wipers were an industry first at the time of the vehicle's production.
Safety equipment on the Catalina includes an energy-absorbing steering column, a safety steering wheel, a padded dash, and a dual-circuit hydraulic braking system. The front suspension is fitted with heavy-duty springs mounted to the 15-inch wheels.

How does the 1967 Catalina hold up today?

Much like its counterpart, the GTO, the Pontiac Catalina is a car that is sought after by many collectors and admirers of classic vehicles. In addition, some of its design elements and safety features were among the first in the industry.
So, is this muscle car still worth spending money and time to add to your collection?
When it was introduced in 1967, the 2-door Catalina coupe cost $3,276. Sales of the base model were as strong as they'd ever been, but 2+2 sales dropped tremendously, leading to 1967 being the last year that the 2+2 was in production.
According to
Hagerty
, you could purchase a 1967 Pontiac Catalina in good condition for just over $5,600. A lot goes into
determining the value
of a used car, but the most important thing for many collectors is the experience. And the 1967 Pontiac Catalina, with its performance and hot rod sensibilities, is well worth the price for those who are looking for a fantastic experience.
