A happy woman getting out of her new car.
Consumer Reports recently released a list of their top 10 most satisfying cars of 2022, cataloging what exactly made
car-buyers
drive off the lot feeling happy, secure, and comfortable with their big purchase. Read on below to see what cars made the cut for consumer satisfaction and their respective satisfaction rating.

How did Consumer Reports get this data?

After receiving responses from more than 300,000 owners of new vehicles,
Consumer Reports
asked respondents how likely they would be to buy the same car again. They also asked about comfort, overall handling, and ease of use for in-car technology.
Taking all of this data into consideration—in addition to the experiences of car-owners who have had their vehicles for up to three years—Consumer Reports was able to calculate a predicted owner satisfaction score.

What makes for a high satisfaction rating

In general, owners appear to report the highest satisfaction when they’re looking to fulfill a specific need or expectation, and those needs are then met. In short—people who know exactly what they want have a higher chance of reporting positive feedback.
For example, a car like the
Chevrolet Corvette
tops the list because it satisfies what the buyer of a sports car is looking for: maximum performance and design.
A Corvette isn’t necessarily going to be the most affordable or the most reliable car for an everyday driver, but it delivers on the needs of what that particular buyer was looking for.
Several electric cars—including the
Ford Mustang Mach-E
, the
Tesla Model Y
, and the
Tesla Model 3
—also made the cut, perhaps showing a trend of things to come in the future of car-buying.
Overall, Consumer Reports urges readers to use this data as a tool for making their final decision, not necessarily as a car-shopping guide.
Not every car buyer is going to have the same needs or the same specifications as to what makes for a satisfactory driving experience, so it’s important to keep your individual specifications in mind when shopping around.
