Route 100 is one of the best fall foliage scenic drives in the country. The road travels through the middle of Vermont, and crosses almost the entire state, hitting beautiful corner after beautiful corner.
Peak foliage season in Vermont is in October, so that’s when you should plan on doing this drive, though you’ll also find some glorious trees and leaves in late September or early November.
The road passes through lots of cool areas, so you’ll have ample places to stop for food and drinks. If you go on a nice day you’ll see many people out and about at the golf courses you drive by. And if you go on a colder day, you’ll spot a lot of people heading to the slopes to go skiing.
You won’t find a better New England fall foliage drive than route 100.

Wisconsin Lake Superior scenic byway
This Wisconsin fall foliage scenic drive is absolutely stunning. It’s only 70 miles, so it’s perfect for a short day trip, and you’ll travel along Lake Superior, which is breathtaking. But you don’t just get views of the water, as the byway also takes you through forests, around beaches, and near golf courses and wilderness areas.
There are plenty of great places to stop for walks or picnics. The foliage is beautiful year round, but you’ll get the prettiest colors in late September and all through October, when the leaves are changing.

Pacific Coast Highway
Also known as Highway 1, the Pacific Coast Highway might be the most lusted-after road in the country for avid drivers. It takes you all the way from San Diego to the remote redwoods of Northern California, with enough turns to make even a race car driver happy.
You’ll traverse along epic cliffs and under huge trees, and pass by countless wineries and beaches. The ocean views are next to none, especially in the fall when the water is metallic looking. Whether you’re driving solo or taking the kids on a California family vacation, this is a road trip not to be missed.
There isn’t a road in America as famous as Route 66, which runs all the way from Southern California to Chicago. Every part of Route 66 is fun and pretty, but the southwest portion is especially nice.
In the fall, when the temperatures have dropped a little bit, you can drive from Los Angeles through Arizona and New Mexico, seeing some of the prettiest desert climate in the country. It’s unlike anything else, and something every driver should experience at least once.
Blue Ridge Parkway
When the autumnal months come around, and the trees begin to change color, it’s hard to find anywhere prettier than Virginia and North Carolina. These states were made for fall, and Blue Ridge Parkway is the best way for drivers to experience the dozens of colors that the state’s foliage has to offer.
It’s a long route that provides ample opportunity for hiking, camping, and fishing, or even just stopping for a quick walk or a picnic. You’ll go up mountains, through fields, and seemingly everything in between.
There are few things nicer than a scenic fall drive. When the weather gets perfect, you can’t go wrong with any of these drives.
