Getting a replacement title is pretty straightforward in Mississippi, but there are a few requirements to keep straight.

What you’ll need to get a replacement title in Mississippi

To get a replacement title in Mississippi, you’ll need to present the following at your local DMV branch:
Things get a bit complicated if your car has a lien (usually when you have an outstanding car loan). In this case, the DMV will send the replacement title to the lienholder first. If the lienholder submits a complete lien release, though, you’ll receive the title.
Keep in mind that if the lien has been paid in full but the lienholder is no longer in business or has changed names, it’s your responsibility to obtain and submit the lien release.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍

When do you need a replacement title?

A title certifies that you legally own your vehicle. It typically contains important information about your car, including the vehicle identification number and the name and address of the owner.
If the title is missing or has somehow been damaged, you will need a title replacement. If you move to a new state or sell your car, you will need to complete a title transfer. Otherwise, you could run into legal trouble down the road.
In addition to a title being lost or damaged, you should apply for a replacement title if:
  • The title has been stolen
  • The text on the title has become illegible
  • The title needs to be altered
  • You never received one in the first place
Your vehicle should only have one title. This means that you should not apply for a replacement if you cannot confirm that the document is, in fact, missing or damaged.
The best advice is to keep your car title in a safe place, like a safe or file cabinet where you keep other important documents.
