Individuals residing in the state of Massachusetts can get a $1,500 or $2,500 rebate for purchasing a qualifying battery/fuel cell or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, respectively.
In the United States, 90% of the energy consumed for transportation comes from petroleum, and the transportation sector is the nation’s leading source of greenhouse gas emissions.
In an effort to desist from petroleum and lower emissions, many states have begun to offer incentives—often in the form of rebates—for purchasing electric vehicles. They help make electric vehicles accessible to more people.
Offers vary depending on the state, so the

How much can I save with the Massachusetts electric vehicle incentive?

In Massachusetts, the
MOR-EV
electric vehicle incentive will save you $2,500 on buying or leasing an eligible battery or fuel cell electric vehicle (BEV/FCEV) or $1,500 on buying or leasing an eligible plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).
Businesses or non-profit organizations can take advantage of this rebate as well.

Other incentives

Several Massachusetts utility providers are offering additional rebates related to electric vehicle chargers, or EVSEs.
  • Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD):
    $250 rebate
for purchasing a level 2 charger and/or $8 credit each month they charge during off-peak hours
  • Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale:
    Free or subsidized
level 2 charger for residential customers serviced by a participating municipal light plant

How to get Massachusetts electric vehicle incentive

To claim your MOR-EV incentive, you need to:
  • Be a Massachusetts resident
  • Purchase or lease a new eligible electric vehicle after January 1, 2020—purchase price must be lower than $50,000 and PHEVs must have a 25-mile capacity on electricity alone
  • Submit a
    MOR-EV application
within three months of the purchase and provide any supporting documents
  • Retain the vehicle in Massachusetts for at least 36 months
Rebates will only be offered until funds run out on a first-come, first-served basis.
