Idaho
is one of the few states in the US that does not offer financial incentives for people to buy or own an electric vehicle
or plug-in hybrid. However, owners of these types of cars are exempt from motor vehicle inspection and maintenance programs.In the US, 90% of the energy consumed from transportation comes from petroleum, a resource that is rapidly depleting and becoming more expensive. This means that the nation’s transportation sector is the leading source of greenhouse gas emissions (29%).
To curb our dependence on a resource that will one day no longer be available, many states are offering incentives, like rebates or tax credits, to encourage drivers to choose electric vehicles, and to help make them more accessible.

How to get Idaho’s electric vehicle program exemption?
There are no steps that are required to earn the exemption — you must simply own an electric vehicle, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, or a standard hybrid to be exempt from state motor vehicle inspection and maintenance programs. This is enforced by Idaho statute.
