As much as you try, it’s almost impossible to keep wood furniture from getting scratched. During regular daily activities, it’s easy for a piece of furniture to get bumped and knocked around a little, which will leave nicks in the finish. Luckily, there is a neat household trick that can help get rid of these blemishes. You might not know it, but you can seal wood scratches with a walnut! Here’s a three-step guide to fixing wood furniture scratches with a walnut.
Rub the scratch with a walnut
- Piece of shelled walnut
To get the natural nut oils into the scratch, take a piece of shelled walnut and rub it into the scratch. Begin by using a circular motion to rub the walnut from one end to the other of the blemish. Next, use a back and forth motion to rub across it and cover the whole length of the scratch.
Let the nut oil penetrate the wood
In order for the walnut oil to seal the scratch, you must let it sit and soak into the wood. You should wait five to 10 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Polish the scratched area
- Polishing cloth or soft clean cloth
After you have let the walnut oil penetrate the wood, you can take a polishing cloth and gently buff the area. If you don’t have a polishing cloth, a soft and clean cloth will work. After a few minutes of polishing the area, you will notice the scratch is gone!
Sealing wood scratches with a walnut only takes three easy steps! Take a shelled walnut and rub it into the scratch, let the nut oil penetrate the area, and polish the scratch away. You can also remove markers and other types of ink from wood furniture to restore it to its former glory. Once you have buffed away all the blemishes in your wood furniture, you may be ready to clean your carpets! Scratch-free wood furniture and new-looking carpet will give your home a fresh and welcoming look.
