Your car might come from the dealership looking like it was painted 10 minutes ago, but that look will eventually fade. And when it does, you might want to consider having your car painted. Perhaps you’re painting your car because wear and tear has it not looking brand new anymore. Or maybe you’ve been involved in an accident and the replacement panels don’t quite match. Or maybe you just want to try a new color on your car and see how it looks.
Whatever the reason, if you’re getting your car repainted, you’ll have to pay for it. But how expensive is that? Read on to find out.
How much does it cost for a standard quality car paint job?
The cost of painting a car can vary greatly, from pretty affordable to extremely expensive. It all depends on what you’re looking for when painting your car.
With that said, the majority of car paint jobs are standard quality, which is to say they’re good but not great. You can go for a budget option if you need to save money, or a showroom quality option if you’re a car enthusiast, but most people are going to opt for a standard quality paint job. With a standard quality job, your car will look good and essentially new. It will be professional quality, so you don’t need to worry about it looking cheap or like you did it yourself.
This is definitely the recommended option, unless you have a very expensive car that you like to show off, or a very cheap, old car that you won’t be driving much longer.
With a standard quality car paint job, you’ll likely pay in the range of $1,000 to $4,000. That’s a large range, but there are a lot of factors, most notably the condition that your car is in. Painters shouldn’t paint over blemishes in your car, so they’ll have to fix any dings, dents, scratches, and rusty patches before doing the actual painting. That, combined with the area you live in, the type of car you have, and the paint you’re opting for, will all impact the price
How much does it cost for a discount car paint job?
If a standard quality car paint job is out of your budget, you can always opt for a discount paint job. Be warned that when it comes to painting cars, you get what you pay for. A discount paint job will look noticeably worse, and will lower the resale value of your car.
That doesn’t mean you should always avoid such a paint job, though. If you have a car that isn’t worth much, or that you don’t intend on reselling, and you just want to find an affordable way to have it look a little better, then a budget car paint job can be a decent option. Usually a discount car paint job will cost you anywhere from $350 to $1,000.
How much does it cost for a showroom quality car paint job?
Getting your car painted gets expensive in a hurry when you want a showroom quality paint job. But if you’re a car enthusiast who is happy to invest in your prize vehicle (or you present your car at car shows) then it might be the best option.
You can get a lot of high quality paint jobs for just north of $5,000, but if you want a real showroom quality paint job, worthy of taking your car to shows, it will likely run you in the $10,000 to $20,000 range, or even more if there’s severe damage to the car, or if it’s a collector’s car.
What if you just want to paint a few parts of the car?
All of the above estimates are for if you’re painting an entire car. Perhaps you’ve just had a fade on a certain part of your car, or you’ve been in an accident and need the replacement piece painted. If that’s the case, you can get a paint job for a fraction of what would be the cost otherwise. For instance, a standard quality hood repainting will usually just be a few hundred dollars.
