What you’ll need to get a replacement title in Florida 

To apply for a replacement title in Florida, start by putting together all the information and documents you’ll need to complete the application. Make sure you have the following: 
  • Proof of identity, such as your driver's license or state ID card
  • Lienholder information or proof of lien satisfaction, if applicable
  • An odometer disclosure
  • Payment for any applicable fees
If a lien is being added to the title, you will need to fill out the information in Section 5 of the title application. You can remove a lien by supplying documents that state that the lien has been satisfied.

How to apply for a replacement title in Florida 

You can apply for a duplicate title in person or by mail at any local county tax collector's office. 
To apply for a duplicate Florida title, you will need to download the Application for Duplicate Title (HSMV 82101) form and follow the steps below: 
  • Indicate the type of application that’s being submitted
  • Print the name, email, and address of the owner as it appears on the registration
  • Indicate who the Application for Duplicate is made by (owner, dealer, lienholder)
  • Print vehicle information and indicate what it is primarily used for
  • Print lienholder information, if applicable
  • Complete odometer disclosure and sign the application form
  • Include proof of identity with the application
Once you complete the application form, you can submit your application in person to your local motor vehicle service center. If you are applying by mail, you will need to send the applications and fees to your local tax collector’s office.
The duplicate title fee in Florida is $75.25 plus an additional fee depending on the county you live in. Other additional fees may apply depending on the primary use of your vehicle.
Please note if you locate your original title after being issued the duplicate, the original will no longer be valid. It should be destroyed or forwarded to the department.

How long does it take to get a replacement title in Florida?

After submitting your application, the DMV will process it within 10 days and mail the duplicate title to you.
If you need your replacement title sooner, you can expedite the process for an additional fee of $10. You must request a fast title in person at a motor vehicle service center, as it will be issued and printed on the same day that you visit.
It is recommended to make an appointment before visiting, as there could be long lines.
